The Name
Janus was a central figure in Roman mythology – a god of doors, gates, and transitions, who always had two faces; one looking backward and one looking forward. He symbolized the ability to understand both the past and the future, which was perfect for a god who made decisions at critical transitions. The name 'Janus' also gave rise to the English word 'janitor', meaning caretaker or cleaner – a title that also symbolizes responsibility for maintenance and management.
